An armed robber escaped with more than £700 in cash from a Haworth coffee house.

The man, who was wielding a pistol, struck at the Main Street premises at around 6.25pm on Sunday.

He pushed an assistant into a back room and threatened him with the gun, before escaping with money from a safe and till.

The assailant ordered staff to lie on the floor and not to move while he fled.

The incident - which happened after the coffee house had closed for the day - was the third armed robbery in the Keighley police division in less than a fortnight.

Sgt Allan Gee, of Keighley police, says: "Fortunately, none of the staff on Sunday was physically injured but it was a very frightening and traumatic incident for them.

"We are looking at any possible links between the armed robberies, but we are keeping an open mind and at this stage there is nothing to suggest they are connected."

Sunday's attacker is described as white, aged between 30 and 40, 6ft tall, well built but not fat, with short, dark-brown hair and facial stubble. He was wearing a light-green thigh-length Goretex-type raincoat, and his voice was described as fairly deep.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or has information about the incident is asked to contact Keighley CID on 17085 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
