Chris Meehan of Silsden has been appointed captain of the Yorkshire under 16s rugby union team for this season's series of county matches. He will also lead Yorkshire in an international match against Scotland at Harrogate in April.
The talented fly half, who attends South Craven School, said: "To be selected by Yorkshire is a great honour for me particularly when you consider the size of the county and the number of good rugby players that you see at the various trials. To then be asked to captain the squad is something very special".
Last year he finished his series of county matches with Yorkshire as the leading try and points scorer.
This is not the first time though that Chris has led representative teams. Previously at rugby he has captained a Yorkshire schools team and has also captained the West Yorkshire district squad. At football he has captained The North Yorkshire Schools, Harrogate and Craven area football team and then went on to have full county trials before having to give up football due to his increasing rugby commitments.
At cricket Chris was last season's captain of the Keighley & Craven Lord Taverners cricket team and was then selected at just 15 years old to successful Joe Lumb area cricket team. At South Craven School he is captain at rugby, football and cricket.
He also plays cricket for Silsden Cricket Club and is a former player with Silsden Juniors football club. To keep his hand in at other sports he is also a member of Keighley and Silsden golf clubs.
