n A four over par 74 was good enough to give Keighley's Mike Bradley the professionals' prize in the Bradford Winter Alliance at windy Baildon last Wednesday.
Low scoring proved difficult in the conditions, but four pairs still managed to tie on five under par 65.
Victory went to Clayton's Steve Bower and Tony Muff on a countback, with Silsden pair John Whitaker and Tom Starkie having to settle for fourth place. Another Silsden pair, Malcolm Mawson and Gary Davey, were in fifth place on 66.
This week's Winter Alliance at Keighley was called off as the course was waterlogged.
n Top international golfer Colin Montgomerie is backing a campaign to encourage youngsters to become 'learner drivers' by taking up golf.
In a bid to find tomorrow's superstars, thousands of beginners and newcomers to the game will be able to take advantage of free golf lessons with PGA professionals during BAE Systems' National Golf Week from April 21 to May 1.
The campaign is open to all ages. PGA chief executive Sandy Jones says: "We want to take golf right down to the grass roots and interest children as young as eight or nine as well as teenagers."
Colin Montgomerie said: "Everyone should be given the chance to have a go at golf, and this campaign sets out to do exactly that. You're never too young or too old to start learning this unique game."
A special hotline (08706 003330) on which callers can be referred to their nearest PGA professional goes live on March 20. Further details can be found on the Internet at www.pga.org.uk or by calling 01675 470333.
