Skipton - A win at home was not to be for Skipton ladies last weekend.
The visitors, Owls, had nothing to play for but were in no mood to let Skipton move into the premier division without a fight. Skipton dominated play throughout the first half and only some brilliant tackling and good saves denied Skipton a goal. Seven short corners to Skipton and a goal mouth scramble were the closest they came. The halftime score at 0-0 is becoming familiar these days but normally Skipton's domination pays dividends. Not this time.
Owls were solid in defence and denied the Skipton forwards any space. Then the unthinkable happened and Owls broke free to score. The Owls defence was even more resilient and two fantastic saves by their keeper meant that Skipton go into their final match needing a win to get promoted. This week they are away to Adel.
Airedale men
Chapletown, Acomb and Airedale all had eyes on the First Division next season. Chapletown played the Division Two champions Slazengers and Airedale visited Acomb.
Airedale started badly with the early temporary suspension of Neil Horsman after just five minutes for dissent. Acomb were well organised and moved the ball well. They opened up space and cause the visitors a lot of problems.
Airedale barely got into the game for 20 minutes and Acomb took a deserved lead. Airedale regrouped and started to string some passes together. The pressure paid off and Airedale won a penalty stroke five minutes before the break to level the score through Andy Barrett.
The game was evenly balanced before a lapse in concentrating let Acomb move the ball eighty yards with two passes and find their centre forward unmarked in front of an empty goal. Airedale stepped up the pace, creating more chances.
With just two minutes to go Gordon Marsh put in a powerful cross that allowed man of the match Nick Pedley to deflect the ball into the roof of the net for the equaliser.
Chapeltown lost to Slazengers 3-2, which means Airedale only need four points out of this weekend's matches with Roundwood (Saturday 12:00 Marley) and Chapeltown to secure promotion.
