Chris Meehan has been appointed captain of the Yorkshire under-16's Rugby Union team for this season's county matches.

The talented fly half will also lead Yorkshire in an international match against Scotland at Harrogate in April.

Chris plays his club rugby with Keighley Crusaders and attends South Craven School.

He said: "To be selected by Yorkshire is a great honour for me, particularly when you consider the size of the county and the number of good rugby players that you see at the various trials. Then to be asked to captain the squad is something very special."

Last year young Chris finished his series of county matches as Yorkshire's leading try and points scorer.

This is not the first time though that Chris has captained representative teams. Previously at rugby he has captained a Yorkshire schools team, and has also captained the West Yorkshire district development squad.

At soccer he has captained the North Yorkshire Schools, Harrogate and Craven area football team and then went on to have full county trials this year before having to give up football due to his increasing rugby commitments.

At cricket Chris was last season's captain of the Keighley & Craven Lords Taverners team, and was then selected at just 15 years old to play for last season's very sucessful Joe Lumb area team.

He is also captain of the school teams at rugby, football and cricket for his school year. Chris also plays cricket for Silsden Cricket Club and is a former player with Silsden Juniors football club.

To keep his hand in at other sports, Chris is also a member of Keighley & Silsden golf clubs.
