Otley'S annual Victorian Fayre could become a longer and more widespread event in a bid to secure its long-term future.

Following a recent meeting to discuss the future of the popular event, Chairman Adrian Robertshaw said it is possible that the traditional fayre could expand to incorporate other seasonal events.

The future of the show was at one stage in doubt because of the lack volunteers to run it.

But Mr Robertshaw said: "This year's Otley Victorian Fayre is most definitely on following a superb response to appeals for new committee members.

"Last week's meeting was amazing. People just kept turning up until we could hardly fit into the room and everyone came with one common objective - to see that the fayre carries on and not just for this year, but for years to come.

"We had many new ideas, suggestions and comments good and bad on the fayre. These will be used along with further feedback from townspeople, community organisations, businesses and market stall holders to ensure that his year's event has even greater appeal.

"It is possible that the fair might expand - perhaps incorporating other seasonal events into a longer and more widespread event."

Organisers would still like to have more committee members, particularly from the business community, church organisations, schools and community organisations.

The next meeting will be held on Monday March 13 at 7.30pm in the Red Lion in Otley.
