Bradford supermarket boss Sir Ken Morrison has made his way into another list of Britain's richest people.

Sir Ken, 68, knighted in the New Year Honours, is 30th in the Mail on Sunday's The Rich Report 2000 which lists Britain's 300 top millionaires. He and his family are said to be worth £710 million.

Morrisons publishes its full-year results on Thursday which are expected to be a set of record figures. The firm, which celebrated its centenary last year, now has 101 stores and is becoming more of a national operation.

In a rare newspaper interview, Sir Ken is reported as saying: "I don't give much regard to personal wealth. I have a nice house and a nice car but cannot be bothered with silly luxuries."

He is one of a number in the list with Bradford connections but none of them can touch the wealth of top name in the list Hans Rausing, head of food packaging firm Tetra Pak, who is said to have £5.6 billion.

David Hood, 51, founder of Bradford firm Pace Micro Technology, is 43rd in the list with an estimated wealth of £505 million. Mr Hood, who started Pace in 1982, is said to have a 26 per cent stake in the firm which is now worth £491 million.

Mr Hood, who lives in Littondale, near Skipton, is also involved in health and leisure firm Waterways and private jet chartering and helicopter training business Multiflight based at Leeds-Bradford International Airport. Fellow Pace director Robert Fleming is also in the list at 283 and said to be worth £94 million.

Former Bradford bus conductor Sir Anwar Pervez, 64, is 208 in the list with a personal wealth of £143 million. He founded the Bestway Group in 1962 and has since turned it into Britain's second-largest cash-and-carry operation.

Also listed is Manchester-born textile boss Alan Lewis, 62, at joint 244. Mr Lewis, said to be worth £115 million, is chairman of Bradford textile firm Illingworth Morris, which has firms throughout the city.
