Aidan Davison has performed a dramatic U-turn and is set to join Bradford City's fight for Premiership survival today.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper spent three months on loan at Valley Parade and was offered a three-and-a-half year deal after City agreed an undisclosed fee with Davison's club Sheffield United.

However the goalkeeper initially turned down the deal which, coupled with a fresh injury for Matt Clarke, plunged City into a goalkeeping crisis at the weekend with Neville Southall facing Leeds.

City had been linked with a move for Bayern Munich keeper Sven Scheuer but after a rethink Davison telephoned Geoffrey Richmond yesterday.

The City chief said: "Aidan watched the Leeds game on television and rang me yesterday morning to say he felt awful about what had happened.

"He also said he had made a big, big, big mistake and that he had been a silly boy. He said he wanted to accept the offer we made last week.

"Subject to a medical which should be a formality, he will complete the move today.

"We were already down the line with Scheuer deal and he was due to come to Bradford today. However that is now off. Aidan is known to us and we know him, so we are very pleased he has chosen to join us."

Davison will undergo a medical today and may face Coventry on Saturday if Clarke fails to recover from the knee ligament injury which has kept him out for two months.

Richmond added: "There has also been a suggestion that the deal broke down last week because Aidan wanted a guarantee of first team football. That is untrue."

The 31-year-old spent three months on loan at Valley Parade, initially as cover for Matt Clarke due to Gary Walsh undergoing knee surgery.

Manager Jewell knew all about him from the loan spell he spent at Valley Parade in 1997 when he helped the club avoid relegation from Division One.

Davison was then thrust into the first-team spotlight when Clarke was carried off in a 3-2 home win over Watford towards the end of January.

The Northern Ireland international then started four matches with his display in his final game at Tottenham earning City a valuable point.

City reserves face Barnsley tonight at home (7pm). They will be looking to consolidate their second place in the FA Premier Reserve League (North).
