A SCHOOLGIRL is making giant steps towards raising the cash she needs for a trek to Pakistan and China.
Gemma Richmond, of Park Road, is organising a host of events designed to give the final push to her fundraising target before she sits her A-level exams.
Gemma, a pupil at St Mary's Catholic Comprehensive School, in Menston, needs to raise a further £1,200 to boost her total to the required £3,700.
She has already raised £2,500 through a combination of car boot sales, raffles and craft fairs.
Gemma, 17, said: "At the beginning it seemed such a big sum to raise. My mum and dad have been brilliant, really helpful at helping me raise the money. It is getting closer and I can't believe we are pushing for the last few pounds."
Now the teenager is whipping up support for a Line Dance - to be led by dance teacher Dr T.
Gemma said: "My friend's dad is Dr T. He said he could do us a free evening for my fundraising so we put it together from there."
Plans for a fashion show at St Peter and Paul's Church and a chocolate lovers' evening - where confectioners Greens of Denby will demonstrate how to make Easter eggs - are also under way.
Gemma will set off for the month-long expedition, which is being organised by the Yorkshire Schools Exploring Society, in July with 17 other youngsters.
The group will travel through Pakistan by whatever transport is available before going on foot through China.
Gemma has been putting in intensive training for the trek, taking part in wet training weekends at the Peak District with the rest of the group.
The fashion show will take place on March 20 and the Line Dance will be held at High Royds Social Club, Menston, on Friday, March 24, at 8pm. For tickets and further information call 01943 874207.
