WEEKS of uncertainty have ended with the news that the long-term future of Otley Show has been secured.
Doubts about what would happen to the big one-day agricultural show arose two months ago when Bridge End Auction Mart - where the show is held every May - closed for good.
However, the show committee has now won assurances that the show can be held there for years to come.
Show secretary Janet Raw said: "The owner of the premises has kindly agreed that all should remain as in previous years, which means that all cattle and some breeds of sheep will be housed there and facilities for exhibitors will be the same.
"They have also agreed that future shows can be held there and this is welcome news after a lot of uncertainty.
"And despite the economic situation for many involved in farming and agricultural industries, only a few of the sponsors were unable to continue with their support, which is another boost."
Entries to this year's show, which is just under ten weeks away, are rolling in, but the closing date is not until April 20, so there is still plenty of time for would-be exhibitors to apply for a schedule.
Judges from as far afield as Scotland and Somerset have already been invited and new classes have been introduced for Dexter cattle and Wensleydale sheep in order for Otley Show to encourage new exhibitors while retaining regular ones. The show has also been awarded a Horse of the Year Show qualifier in the Shire sections.
Anyone interested in exhibiting at the show, either with trade space or in one of the many classes available, should contact Mrs Raw in the show office on Bridge Street, Otley, on (01943) 462541.
