Dean Lamb and Leighton Shackleton gave JPL a flying start on their way to the semi-finals of the Newbridge Garage Sunday Cup.
Their goals gave JPL a 2-0 half time lead over Shoulder of Mutton with both goals coming after a tight opening 20 minute spell. In the second half two goals from Lee Stringer and one from Peter Rooke gave JPL a comfortable 5-1 win over Shoulder, with their consolation goal being scored by Billy Russell.
In the Premier Division St Annes Celtic suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 3-1 at the hands of Keighley Juniors. Martin Bland and Rob Pearson put Juniors 2-0 up at half time and Gavin Fynn extended their lead after the break. Jimmy Spence pulled one back for Saints.
Mark Price commanded the Juniors' back four in an outstanding team performance which was a tribute to manager Dave Wiseman.
Paul Woolley scored his first goal in five years for Maguires, but it did little to help his side. Royal hammered nine past the beleaguered opposition with Carl Gage scoring a hat-trick, Spencer Harrison (2), Nick Fawell (2) and one each for Sam Lunn and Steve George.
Silsden kept up the pressure at the top, winning 3-2 in a tight game at Victoria Hotel. A Chris Brown penalty for Victoria just before the break pulled the scores level after Dave Ward had opened the scoring for the Cobbydale team. But it was Ward who had the last say in an exciting opening period, putting his team back ahead on the whistle.
The Silsden striker completed his hat-trick in the second half, and an own goal put Victoria back in the game but they could not score an equaliser.
Stoney Lane kept up the pressure at the top of the first division with victory over Malt Shovel.
Early goals by Paul Cater, to follow his hat-trick of the previous week, and a blistering 25-yard shot from Justin Beattie put Lane 2-0 up. A superb performance by Nick Davidson in the Malt Shovel goal kept the score down.
