An American style 'fat camp' for children hoping to spend their summer shedding the pounds is to be set up at a Bradford School.
On July 23, Woodhouse Grove School will welcome 100 children who will be forced to give up fast food and computer games for a six week health regime.
The independent school in Apperley Bridge is playing host to the venture which has been organised for the second year by Leeds Metropolitan University.
Camp director Paul Gately said: "All those attending last year's camp lost an average of four pounds a week, predominantly fat."
Mr Gately admitted that the first camp last year did have its critics. But he said the sustained healthy lifestyle now enjoyed by many former campers demonstrated it had been a real benefit.
David Humphreys, head teacher of the school, said: "We are delighted that Woodhouse Grove will be used as a venue for the camp."
The six-week programme will include fun activities as well as a healthy eating programme, which includes children being taught about how to eat well during their daily routine.
The cost of sending a child on the residential course weighs in at £1,950. However, unlike last year, the camp will be open to non-boarders, which will mean local children can take part.
The organisers of the camp, which is non-profit making, were last year awarded £38,000 from the National Heart Research Fund.
