Johnny Green snatched a last-gasp victory for Leylands in the Keighley & District Darts & Dominoes League Cup Final against favourites Aire Valley Gas.

Aire Valley, the Premier League Champions, had been in command for much of the game after Leylands drew first blood with Jimmy brown and Mick Kennedy winning the first dominoes doubles match. Valley hit back with wins in the first two games of single darts, setting the scene for a riveting evening's competition.

Aire Valley just managed to keep their noses in front until dart legends Bob Brown and Steve Hudson took the oche, both players producing some brilliant darts throwing to level the scores at six games each. Valley still had their ace card to play with top darter Dave Wall winning his two games despite being given a good run by former Yorkshire County darter Geraldine Hudson.

With the scores 7-6 in Valley's favour it was the first to reach nine who would take the title. Leyland domino pairing Stuart Smith and Geraldine Hudson stretched their supporters' nerves to the limit allowing Aire Valley duo Ray Cox and Chris Todd to level things after being 4-1 down. Smith and Hudson finally clinched victory 5-4 while Bob Brown clinched a last leg victory over Dave Wall (Aire Valley) to take the overall score to 8-7 in Leyland's favour.

With 15 games played another win for Aire Valley would take it right to the wire. Ray Cox (Aire Valley), a seasoned darts campaigner, took the first leg against Johnny Green, but it was the youngster who won the next two legs to secure a memorable victory for Leylands.
