A nine-year-old saxophonist is making history as the youngest musician to add his sound to an Otley theatre orchestra.

Lloyd Almond, who took up the alto saxophone little more than a year ago, is making himself heard alongside more experienced musicians at Otley Little Theatre Orchestra.

The Menston Primary School pupil made his mind up to join the orchestra after seeing their Christmas pantomime.

He immediately struck a chord with the members of the orchestra - many of whom are over 50 - and is now adding his talents to their performances.

Lloyd, who gave up an athletics club to be able to rehearse with the orchestra, made his debut with them when they accompanied the Little Theatre production of A Chorus of Disapproval.

The orchestra are looking for more new members and are hoping that other youngsters will follow Lloyd's lead.
