A LARGE procession of floats through Guiseley will mark the annual Guiseley Carnival, which is being held as part of the inaugural Guiseley Festival.
The carnival, on June 25, is the seventh since it was revived in 1994 after an absence of 50 years.
The procession will leave Station Road, Guiseley, and travel down Otley Road to Greenbottom and then up The Green to Town Gate, Oxford Road and finally to Guiseley Infant School, the venue of the carnival.
Marion Ealham, chairman of Guiseley Senior Citizens, said it was hoped the carnival would be the best yet as they had been promised support from a variety of organisations.
"We are to have a carnival queen and hopefully a celebrity will perform the opening ceremony.
"All we need is some fine weather. Although the weather was poor last year we still had a good carnival," she said. "I think we have done well to keep the carnival going since it was revived in 1994."
Joan Belsham, the carnival chairman, has managed to arrange an increase in the number of floats for the procession. Proceeds from the carnival will go towards the funds of Guiseley Senior Citizens.
The annual old people's trip this year is to Morecambe on August 6.
Coffee mornings are being held at the Guiseley Guide Hut on the first Sunday of each month.
A 1960s Night is to be held at Guiseley Factory Workers' Club on an evening to be arranged in April.
Preparations are also in hand for a barrel push in the near future.
