A 43-year-old long-distance swimmer is taking to the road in April in an effort to raise cash for charity.
Candy Gable, of Fieldhead Road, Guiseley, is to make her debut in the London Marathon on April 16 to raise a cash for MacMillan Nurses and Guiseley Senior Citizens.
Candy, who had not done any serious running until she applied to take part last December, is now busy training for the event. So far she has completed an 18-mile run and is confident she will complete the event on April 16.
"I am confident I will be able to finish the marathon. I am quite fit through swimming as I do 80 lengths each Sunday at the Aireborough Leisure Centre and I recently completed the 25-mile Rombald's Stride," she said.
Candy, who is married to Peter and has a daughter, Jemma, 12, and a son Russell, 17, trains regularly in the Aireborough and Wharfedale districts.
Sponsorship forms can be obtained from Tony Woods, butchers and Rhodes, newsagents, both in Guiseley.
