The earlier start date for Bingley relief road was confirmed today in a £280 million Government package for transport.
As revealed in February, the £60 million scheme to build a congestion-busting dual carriageway around the town has been brought forward a year and should now be open in 2003/4.
It is among six other road schemes that have been accelerated by the Govern-ment as part of the transport package which was announced by Minister of Transport Lord MacDonald.
Tenders have gone out and construction work is now expected to start by the end of this year.
Lord MacDonald was giving details of how the £280 million transport fund announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown in Tuesday's Budget would be spent.
"This is a major boost in our drive towards providing modern, integrated transport systems," said Lord MacDonald.
