Multiflight, the firm headed by Pace Micro Technology founder David Hood, has acquired an aircraft repair company for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition of Yorkshire Light Aircraft is part of an expansion plan by Multiflight at Leeds-Bradford International Airport where both companies are based.

The takeover means the two firms will have a turnover of £7 million and employ 75 staff - 25 from YLA.

YLA has a long history of providing overhaul and repair services at the airport. The firm said the acquisition was the first stage of Multiflight's major investment programme to develop facilities on the south side of the airport.

Steve Borrowdale, managing director of Multiflight, said: "The purchase of YLA, with its roots in light aircraft engineering, ideally complements the skills of Multiflight's engineering division which specialises in executive jet and helicopter engineering.

"This acquisition is part of a development programme to improve facilities for all users of light aircraft, helicopters and corporate jet aircraft at the airport."
