After taking a few weeks rest to get over the rigours of a tough cyclo-cross season, Gargrave rider Chris Young (Team Marie Curie) was back in road racing action when he took third place in the 80km Tour of the Reservoir in County Durham.
But for a miscalculation he could have finished higher. He was in a five-man leading group with Mark Lovatt (Provision) and the unattached Jeff Wright. Lovatt escaped on his own then Young and Wright decided to make him stew in front on his own for a while.
However, they were misinformed as to a number of laps left and while Lovatt won, Wright and Young finished second and third just two seconds down. Keighley rider Danny Fox (Team Marie Curie) finished eighth, four minutes down on the winner.
His brother Nathan, riding for the Paul Milnes Racing Team, finished fourth in the 64-mile Leeds St Christopher's Road Race at Ledston near Castleford.
Two riders escaped on the last lap and contested a hot sprint finish with Kevin Brennan (Dinnington RC) getting the verdict over Lee Roberts (Wakefield CC) who was 22 seconds down on the winner and just a few lengths ahead of Fox who out-sprinted his team-mate Martin Russell for fourth place.
