Bradford Bulls have ruled out veteran forward Bernard Dywer and have Stuart Spruce on the doubtful list for Sunday's Super League visit to the McAlpine Stadium to face the Huddersfield-Sheffield Giants.

Veteran Dwyer has ruptured a muscle in his upper arm and has undergone a scan, the results of which will decide whether he needs surgery.

Full back Spruce limped off with a thigh injury during last Saturday's Challenge Cup semi-final victory over Warrington and coach Matthew Elliott was making a final check on him today.

"At this stage it looks like Stuart will have a rest this weekend and Michael Withers would be the most likely stand-in," he said.

"Bernard will be missing but we are hoping surgery will not be necessary."

Elliott has added David Boyle, Lee Radford and Tevita Vaikona to the squad on duty at Headingley but says he is not intentionally rotating his squad.

"I can afford to err on the side of caution," he said. "At the moment the best team is my fittest team because we are in the happy position of everyone playing well."

Vaikona, a first-choice winger for the last two seasons, has made just one substitute appearance so far and Elliott says it shows the strength of the squad.

"Nathan McAvoy and Justin Brooker have both been in excellent form and Tevita knows the situation.

"I don't expect him to be happy but the side is always picked on form."
