A series of fires started at industrial compounds are being linked by police.

Dewsbury CID officers have appealed for help from the public after fires were started in skips and a temporary building in Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike and Batley Carr.

In most of the five incidents the arsonist scaled high walls or fencing to get inside.

Detective Inspector Kevin McCorry said: "Whoever is doing this may think it's a prank but the consequences could be serious."

DI McCorry said the culprit could be someone in their mid-teens but added officers were keeping an "open mind".

The first fire was started in a portable building at Celette Industrial Housing in Stone Street, Cleckheaton, at 5.15pm on Monday, March 13. A lorry was damaged after a skip was set alight at RB Stead in Kaye Street, Heckmondwike, at 11.45am on Sunday, March 19.

An outhouse was set on fire in Hirst Avenue, Dale Lane, Heckmondwike at 3am on Wednesday, March 29. Skips in two compounds in Batley Carr were set alight at 11pm on March 20 and 8pm on March 21.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dewsbury police on (01924) 431059.
