Burley Under-14s started this cup competition with a repeat of their cup match played earlier in the season when Horsforth won 13-2. So this would be a measure of Burley's improvement.
Both teams took time to settle with early shots off target. Horsforth took first blood and soon were 3-0 in front but just before half-time Tom Smith fired low to make it 1-3.
Burley made a tactical change at half-time brought a more positive approach and the reward was instant with Jim Hunter rounding two players to score. A slick pass by Josh Mitchell set up Elliott Exley to equalise. Horsforth now started to panic and put more into attack which left gaps at the back which Elliott Exley exploited with a lob over the 'keeper for Burley to take the lead.
All-out attacks by Horsforth brought a free-kick which was brilliantly saved by Matthew Staniforth. Horsforth were then given a somewhat harsh penalty but this was saved by Man -of-the-Match Matthew Staniforth.
As time was running out Nick Sugden's left-foot shot went low into the corner to make a brilliant come-back complete. This was a team performance where everybody played their part against a team from a higher division.
