A firm which was formed out of a voluntary group is now celebrating ten years of recycling.

Bradford Waste Chasers started as a business in 1990 - two years after a group of volunteers set up Bradford Recyclers as a voluntary organisation.

Only one person is left from the original six - Lisa Rotheram - who has seen the firm pick up more contracts in the last few years.

The company, which employs six people, has picked up a number of contracts over the last few years including one with Wheelden Print in Wakefield Road, Bradford, and chemical company Kalon in Birstall.

The company has a number of other companies as customers including a number of household names along with parts of Bradford Council.

The firm, based in The Old Iron Mill, Lessarna Court, Bowling Back Lane, is currently doing research work with the Council to help them expand its recycling programme.

Councillor Keith Thompson, chairman of the Council's waste management sub-committee, said: "We are very pleased that Bradford Waste Chasers are ten years old and we hope that they continue to flourish and maintain their dedication in the uphill struggle to reduce waste and increase recycling.

"The local authority is continuously looking at innovative ways of forming partnerships with organisations in their effort to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill."

The firm, which has vans with tail-lifts and collects recyclable paper in wheelie bins left at firms, also collects cans, cardboard and toner cartridges.

The company also specialises in confidential information disposal which means it shreds paper documents which are of a confidential nature. The firm also provides advice for companies seeking help with how to reduce their waste.

Sally Fildes-Moss, from the firm, said: "We are always on the lookout for companies who want help with recycling."
