JOHNNY Henry - an ex-pupil of Menston's St Mary's RC Comprehensive - is one of a group of students at Leeds Metropolitan University who have pledged to raise money for The Cancer Research Campaign.
The students are in their final year of a BA (Hons) in Event Management and in a bid to put theory into practice, are organising an Inter University Rugby Sevens Tournament on Sunday, May 14 at Otley RUFC's Cross Green ground, all proceeds will go to the charity.
University teams will be travelling to Otley from across the north of England as well as including local sides from Trinity And All Saints College, Horsforth, Bradford, Ripon and York, plus Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle. Both Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds University are taking part to introduce some friendly rivalry.
If this is not enough, a match between Leeds Metropolitan University and Leeds University's women's teams will be played just before the final.
Johnny, 22, who played centre for Otley's Under-16's, Under-17's and the Colts side during their impressive run of winning the Yorkshire Cup in four successive years, said: "When we were looking for a venue to hold the rugby tournament there was none better than Otley.
"The ground has everything needed to hold a successful tournament. I really hope local people will come along on May 14 and help us raise money for The Cancer Research Campaign."
