ONCE again the people of Ilkley are being asked to put their hands in their pocket for vital local

projects.

Firstly, there is the need for cash to provide

much-needed extra facilities at the new All Saints School on Skipton Road.

While it could be argued that it is up to Bradford Council to provide the best possible educational environment for our children without Council Tax payers having to fork out again to get more acceptable facilities, clearly this is not going to happen.

There is a need for more room at the school and if it is not done at the planning and basic construction stage, then the cost of adding extra accommodation would rise significantly.

Those in charge of the project have acted

prudently in securing the promise of loans so whatever happens the extra accommodation will be

provided.

But the ideal solution would be for the community to help get the new All Saints Primary off to a flying start by coming up with the necessary cash.

Similarly, the Ilkley Millennium Bandstand 2000 Project is also looking for funds to secure one of the nicest aspects of Ilkley town centre so it can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike for at least the next 99 years.

It hardly seems plausible that in a town with land prices as high as they are, the rapacious developers can be held at bay by a massive effort of community spirit.

It is another project which deserves all the support it can get and those in charge deserve praise from the whole community.

l On the subject of raising money for 'public'

projects, readers are directed to a special article by Andrew Dundas on page eight which discusses this topic.
