Mick Porritt has helped serve more meals to hungry postal workers in Bradford during his 15-year career than most people will eat in their lives.
Mick, who is unit manager at Royal Mail's Bradford office, has been awarded a long-service award for his commitment and loyalty to contract caterers Quadrant Granada.
During his time with the company, Mick, 41, has seen many changes in the catering industry and has introduced a wider range of meals.
The firm now offers a mixture of traditional main meals and a wide range of food with international flavours. More office staff are using the restaurant who prefer a lighter meal and there are a number of speciality days which include Asian cuisine events and indoor barbecues.
He is in charge of a team of four chefs and 20 staff who provide 500 meals a day for workers at the main Post Office in Forster Square. Mick started working for the company when it was the catering arm of the Post Office. In 1988, Quadrant Catering was set up as an independent catering company, although still entirely owned by the Post Office.
In 1998 the company entered into a joint venture with Granada Foods Services allowing the company to enter into the commercial arena.
He said: "When I arrived here 15 years ago we had a basic restaurant area and served more traditional food. Over the years the restaurant has been refurbished twice and we now serve a much wider variety of food."
