A youngster who has overcome asthma to become an all round sporting champion is the grand winner in our Search for a Sporting Star, run in conjunction with Taywood Homes.

Luke Broadbent has overcome the condition to excel at a wide range of sporting activities.

Taywood Homes sales and marketing director David Mackintosh says: "As ever we have been incredibly impressed by the level of sporting achievement from all the entries.

"In spite of his asthma, Luke has done superbly well in a diverse range of sports and we felt he is a worthy winner."

The 11-year-old's sporting prowess has won his school, Parkside Middle, £250 to spend on new sporting equipment. He was also presented with sports vouchers by Taywood's sales manager Carolyn Rushbrook.

Parkside sports teacher Jonnie Butler says: "Luke is a very talented athlete, as well as being a good all round sportsman, and the school is very proud of what he has achieved."

The youngster from Birchlands Avenue, Wilsden, who also helped Parkside to take the inaugural U11s rugby league cup at Cougar Park on Tuesday.

His four tries contributed to the team's victories over Hartington and Bront in the heats and St Joseph's in the final.

A talented runner, Luke triumphed at last years Bradford Inter Schools' cross country championship, taking first position in a race around Myrtle Park, Bingley.

He was also a member of the school team which came first in a relay competition in Skipton. He also finished third out of 45 runners in a Yorkshire schools' trials event at Nab Wood.

Luke is an equally cool hand with a racket, something he demonstrated emphatically by winning last year's Bradford and District U12's tennis tournament.

The youngster has also been winning fans with his table tennis skills, which are being nurtured at the Hans Soova Table Tennis School of Excellence, at Oakbank School.His natural ability has led him to the runners up spot in the Bradford district's U10 and U11 sections.

He is also a member of the Parkside table tennis team which reached the semi-finals of the Bradford Schools' championship last month.
