Bingley St Ives secretary Mary Welch has been elected Captain of the Association of Golf Club Secretaries for the Yorkshire Region.
Her duties will include captaining the Yorkshire region team in matches against the North West at Pleasington, East Midlands at Hessle, North Yorks and South Durham at Fulford, Northern at Tyneside and Midlands at Doncaster.
There will also be a spring meeting at Bingley St Ives and an autumn meeting at Ilkley, with a Christmas event at Shipley. Mary's vice captain is Ron Bramley, secretary at Fulford.
Mary has been secretary at St Ives for the last eight years, but plays her golf at East Bierley, where she has been a member for 43 years. She was lady captain there in 1962 when she was just 21 years old - probably the youngest ever lady captain in the country - and held the office again in 1975.
She now plays off 17 handicap, but was at one time off six. She founded the Bradford & District Lady Past Captains Association and is its captain this year, and served as president of the Bradford Ladies Evening league for 10 years.
A Branshaw team crossed the border into Lancashire on Sunday and won the Burnley Golf Club four-man team open event.
Jimmy Brown (18 handicap), Mike Narey (12), John Head (8) and Craig Spencer (9) scored an excellent 115pts to finish four points clear of the field of 50 teams in tough, windy conditions.
Jimmy says: "The course was very challenging and we didn't think we had scored well enough to win, so we were very pleased with the result."

Riddlesden members Brian Hudson and John Sharp won the Alliance at their own course the previous week with a 54. Second on 56 were fellow members M Scarborough and J Lee, and Keighley's Mike Bradley was second in the professional section with a 65.
