A young student from Haworth is gearing up for the trip of a lifetime as he prepares to spend six weeks in Greenland.
Karl Wright, of Hebden Road, is flying out to Greenland in July as one of a group of Young Explorers, part of a team from BSES Expeditions.
Karl, 18, who is studying a national diploma in outdoor activities at Craven College, says he is looking forward to the arctic challenge.
He says: "It will be mostly trekking across the ice. I haven't really done much on the snow before but it's what I want to go into.
"It will give me a lot of experience in the job that I want to do. I want to teach people climbing and caving."
Karl, a dedicated climber and walker, saw the advert for the trip at college and filled in the forms. He has to raise £2,700 to be able to go but is confident of reaching his target.
He says: "I have written off to a lot of companies and my family is helping me out a lot too."
BSES Expeditions was founded in 1932 by Surgeon Commander George Levick, a survivor of Captain Scott's 1910 Antarctic expedition, and is one of the longest running groups of its type.
During the six-week camping trip Karl will be involved in a number of scientific experiments and assignments.
