A major plan to revolutionise Haworth's tourism industry and help villagers reap the benefits is unveiled today.
The radical proposals include - as exclusively revealed in the Keighley News last month - the transformation of the current Haworth Primary School building at Butt Lane into a high class hotel. The package also features a revamp of the Bront Village car park, with a visitor centre to be built on its upper level.
And as part of an effort to encourage more use of public transport by Brontland's millions of visitors, backing would be provided for day-long year-round passenger services on the KWVR. Increased support for village businesses, funding for a village manager, an expansion of community facilities, environmental improvements and a heritage trail highlighting buildings and places of historic interest are also in the dynamic dossier.
The public is now being urged to give its views on the proposals, which are on display at Haworth Tourist Information Centre until Monday, before an action plan is finalised.
The package has been drawn up following a study by national environmental charity the Civic Trust, in conjunction with a local steering group. The project - one of only three of its kind in the country - examined ways of maximising community benefits from tourism while minimising the drawbacks.
