A man received 'potentially fatal' injuries today following an incident outside a Shipley curry house.

The man was undergoing surgery after being knocked down and seriously injured by a two-trailer articulated lorry following a disturbance outside the restaurant.

The accident happened in Commercial Street, Shipley. The injured man is an Asian restaurant worker.

Police said the incident happened after an argument erupted at the Adaab restaurant between a group of customers and four members of staff shortly before midnight.

Police are still trying to trace relatives of the 38-year-old local man, who was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary with serious leg and head injuries.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Superintendent Max Mclean said: "This is a serious incident. A man has received potentially life-threatening injuries and we need witnesses to come forward as soon as possible.

Det Ch Supt Mclean said following the argument between staff and customers one of the diners was ejected. The row continued outside and then the restaurant worker was in collision with the lorry.

Det Ch Supt Mclean said it appeared the lorry driver was not aware of the collision and did not stop.

The vehicle has since been recovered and is being examined by forensic experts.

Following the incident the section of the A657 Saltaire Road between Victoria Street and Fox Corner was sealed off by investigating officers.

A scenes of crime tent was removed just after 9.30am, to reveal an area of blood-stained carriageway, a pair of dark-coloured boots and several tablecloths.

lA 24-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was questioned by detectives at Eccleshill police station today.
