Yorkshire recorded their first victory over traditional rivals Lancashire in six attempts at Under-15 level in the Roses battle last weekend.
The 15-5 win completed an unbeaten season for the team. Earlier victories against Durham and Leicestershire set the scene for the final match held at Keighley's Utley ground.
Yorkshire began the game in sprightly fashion their lively backs impressing with their running and handling. They allowed a couple of try-scoring opportunities to go begging before deservedly taking a ten point lead through two unconverted tries into half-time.
Lancashire did not give in and made a spirited fightback mounting sustained pressure on the home line. Local boys Jake Capel (Bradford & Bingley) and Matthew Shuttleworth (Wharfedale) played their part in some sound defensive work by Yorkshire and succeeded in restricting the visitors to a solitary try.
Yorkshire then developed some attacking ideas of their own and rounded off a tense period of play with a sweeping move to score wide out on the left. Lancashire were unable to close the gap again leaving Yorkshire victorious by fifteen points to five.
