Menston U-9s......1 Ilkley...... 6
This was Ilkley's finest team performance of the season, against a well-fancied Menston side. Early Menston pressure was successfully resisted, and Ilkley took the lead when Stephen Loy turned in a Stephen Bunn corner.
A good save from 'keeper Will Normington maintained Ilkley's lead, which was soon increased when Stephen Bunn scored from a Stephen Loy pass. A Joe Thompson run and shot almost led to Ilkley's third, which eventually came from William Knox. Periods of Menston pressure were resisted by an ever more dependable defence of Michael Lader and Joe Thompson. Ilkley led 3-0 at half-time.
The second-half began with Menston pushing to get back in the game and Michael Lader cleared a strong effort off the line. Chris O'Connor strengthened the defence and had a lively debut. Ilkley's midfield of Sam Needham, William Knox and Stephen Loy were able to counter-attack strongly and fourth Ilkley goal came from a Stephen Bunn break, supplied by Sam Needham.
Menston got a deserved consolation goal to make it one-four, but two William Knox goals secured a convincing victory for Ilkley. Man-of-the-Match was Stephen Loy.
