FORMER Horsforth and Aireborough MP Sir Giles Shaw has died, aged 68 years old. Born in York, he represented the constituency, including Pudsey, for 23 years before standing down in 1997 when the seat went to Labour. A Cambridge graduate, Sir Giles took on daunting ministerial responsibility in both the Northern Ireland Office and the Home Office during the Thatcher years, as well as serving in Environment, Transport and the Regions. He was an advertising director for Rowntrees before becoming a politician. Sir Giles is survived by his wife Dione, two daughters and a son. A family funeral service was held yesterday at Hovington Church and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
