Campaigners fighting a housing development in picturesque Pool-in-Wharfedale are hoping to win their latest battle.
Members of Pool Parish Council and residents turned up in force at a public inquiry into controversial plans by Bryant Homes to build nine homes on the Whitegates site off Arthington Lane. Following a concerted campaign in the village, Leeds City Council opposed the application at a two-day inquiry in Leeds Civic Hall.
The objectors claimed the plans jeopardised pedestrian safety on busy Arthington Lane, and they criticised a proposed footpath from the development which they say comes out on a 'dangerous' corner of the lane. Concerns about drainage and the 'out-of-character' building materials to be used were also raised.
Representatives for Bryant questioned the Council's figures showing 19 per cent of traffic along Arthington Lane was HGVs. They also claimed pedestrians would have adequate chance to cross the road and that the proposal would have no effect on pedestrian safety.
Appeal inspector Jonathan King is due to announce his decision next month.
