Detectives are still waiting to speak to a man ten days after he was involved in an incident which ended with him being in collision with a lorry.

Doctors have told police Mohammed Farooq Jan is still not fit enough to be questioned by officers investigating the incident outside a Shipley restaurant.

Meanwhile police are still trying to trace a group of diners who were in the Adaab Balti Restaurant shortly before the incident, which left 38-year-old Mr Jan lying seriously injured in the gutter outside.

Last week Adaab boss Jawaid Iqbal told the Telegraph & Argus how he watched in horror as his friend was involved in a collision with a two-trailer articulated lorry travelling towards Saltaire just before midnight on Sunday, April 16.

The incident followed a disturbance involving a customer outside the Adaab Balti Restaurant on the A657 Commercial Street.

Mr Jan was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he underwent surgery and spent several days in the intensive care unit.

He has now been transferred to St James's Hospital, Leeds, where his condition is described as "stable''.

A hospital spokesman said: "He's been transferred to St James's to be on a specialist ward. He's undergoing tests and is due to undergo further surgery.''

Detective Sergeant Veronica Hepworth, of Eccleshill CID, said: "We've not been able to interview him yet. He is conscious but isn't lucid and although his condition is improving the consultant has said he's not fit enough to speak to us yet.

"We have got other witnesses but his perception of what happened and what he can remember is very important. He's a vital witness and may have vital evidence to give us, so we do need to speak to him.''

She added that the police were keen to speak to a group of people who had been in the Adaab but left shortly before Mr Jan was injured.

Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call police on (01274) 376085.

A 24-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
