A street of run-down listed warehouses in Bradford's West End could be transformed into a multi-million pound leisure scheme.

Shabby Quebec Street could be at the centre of Bradford's thriving night life if the scheme is granted planning permission by Bradford Area Planning Panel.

A glass-built £1million nightclub with the Bradford beck running beneath it would be built at the end of the terrace.

Developer Graham Hall says the beck would be a main feature of the futuristic building which would change colour by the use of fibre optics.

Lighting up of the water course beneath the floor would make it clearly visible to customers.

Mr Hall says his company MXC England is also negotiating with the Council and private owners to buy the empty properties in the rest of the street and its car park.

The company says it is also interested in acquiring the soon-to-be-emptied Odeon Cinema nearby with a view to a shopping development.

The scheme's architect, Neil Wagthorne, designed the mosque in Drewton Street, close to the city centre.

Bradford's biggest mosque is a classic Muslim design but features Yorkshire materials used by traditional craftsmen.

BXM England has now submitted a planning application to Bradford Council for an extension at the end of Quebec Street which will be the nightclub and change of use of a warehouses for a pub and restaurant.

Mr Hall said: "I would like to bring the buildings back to their former glory and the work would be done in phases starting as soon as possible.

"I believe this is the ideal part of Bradford for a hi-tech nightclub because of the growth of leisure developments in the area."

The company's accountant Jonathan White, of Jonathan White chartered accountants in Yeadon, said both an American and merchant bank were very interested in the scheme.

"Everything is in flow to raise the finance."

The Council's Executive Committee member for regeneration, Councillor Dave Green, said: "Obviously the buildings in Quebec Street are in need of renovation and I would welcome any viable scheme to bring them back into use.

"I would hope any developer and the planning panel would take into account the potential future use of the Odeon building."
