BURLEY TROJANS..4
BORO'BRIDGE........7
BURLEY Trojans completed their home league programme with a bizarre match against high flying Boroughbridge Reserves.
After more than matching their visitors and leading 3-1 at half time Trojans capitulated to concede six goals in the second period.
Top goalscorer Jonathan Lofthouse got Trojans off to a flyer with a third minute strike.
Phil Constantine danced his way past his marker and crossed to the far post where Lofthouse rose to head home.
Boroughbridge hit back quickly and following a defence splitting pass the centre forward buried his shot in the bottom corner of Chris Hargreaves net.
Constantine created Trojans second, jinking his way to the byeline and from his cut back Chris Connolly bundled home a poachers goal. The third goal was a typical Lofthouse strike from close range.
Half time was an unwelcome interruption for Trojans but the break seemed to inspire the visitors who struck with two quick goals after the break, both as a result of poor defending at corners.
Boroughbridge, with the runners up spot clearly in their sights, were showing greater desire than the home side and it was no surprise when they finally went ahead midway through the half.
Not to be outdone, Peter Sumner then joined in the fun taking the ball on his chest and beating a defender before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner to restore parity.
The Trojans defence was breached three more times in the closing minutes.
Marton.................0
Trojans Res.........2
Trojans Reserves got back to winning ways with a morale boosting victory at struggling Marton-cum-Grafton.
First half goals from James Goodison and James Huntley were enough to see off their hosts and, with second placed Bass Social losing, the result keeps alive Trojans slim promotion hopes.
The home side began with only ten men and Trojans took full advantage within five minutes. Midfielder Dave McKain's defence splitting pass set up Goodison who unleashed an unstoppable left foot drive.
Grafton did restore numerical parity shortly afterwards but it didn't stop Trojans doubling their advantage on 20 minutes. Rob Wheeler's pin-point right wing corner picked out centre-half Huntley and his powerful header was too hot for the Grafton 'keeper to hold.
Trojans looked solid in defence, keeping their first clean sheet since October and 'keeper Scott McDonald had a quiet afternoon, being called on to make saves on only two occasions in the whole ninety minutes.
Player-manager Chris Worts was the pick of the Trojans side, collecting match point for his consistent performance at left-back.
