Brighouse Rangers 8 Keighley Town 26 - Keighley Town travelled to Brighouse Rangers after their midweek 20-14 defeat at the hands of Guiseley Rangers. Town's points came with tries from Dale Barlow and Neil Kennedy with two conversions and a drop goal plus a Wayne McCoomb drop goal.
With nothing at risk Town took the chance to rest players and blood some of the younger talent, and they ran in four tries in a sparkling opening 40 minutes to establish a 22-4 half time lead.
Town got off to a great start when a McCoomb bomb was allowed to bounce by the Rangers defence and McCoomb was first to react, Kennedy added the extras. Strong running from Dale Spencer, Paul Scott and Billy Davey took the ball deep into the Brighouse half and a high kick on the last tackle was dropped by the Brighouse full back allowing McCoomb to score his second try and Kennedy again added the conversion.
Darren McNulty was next to get his name on the score sheet when he won the race for a Dale Barlow kick through to score under the posts, leaving Kennedy an easy conversion.
Town began to dominate and went further ahead when quick hands across the line saw centre Neil Kennedy put his winger, Tony Metcalfe, in at the corner. A defensive mistake right on half time allowed Rangers a score out wide.
In the second half Town squandered chances despite having the majority of possession. Brighouse battled to get back into the game and frustrated Town for long periods but Billy Davey try secured Town's victory.
Dale Spencer edged out Daz Lynam for the man of the match award while youngsters Ben Bibby and Darren McNulty were worthy of mention for their part in town's win.
