IN the final of the Wharfedale FA Airedale International Sunday Cup, Park Rangers of Yeadon had a resounding win over Olicanian Academicals at goals Guiseley AFC.
Norman Jukes, a director of Guiseley AFC, had worked hard all day to get the pitch in fine condition after the heavy rains.
Park Rangers took the lead in the seventh minute and looked as if they would take control of the game from that point on but Olicanians had other ideas at this stage and came more into the game.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 29th minute when they were awarded a penalty which Phil Constantine hammered into the net.
Park Rangers then re-asserted themselves and goals in the 33rd and 44th minutes gave them an interval lead of 3-1.
Following the resumption, Park Rangers took complete control of the game and further goals in the 56th, 58th, 68th and 70th minute gave them
Their goalscorers were Timothy Brierley (3), Darren Auton (2), Daniel Grime, Craig Auton and an own goal.
Park Rangers picked up the Machell Trophy for the second time, the first being in the 1996-97 season.
The Trophy and individual mementoes for the players and match officials were presented by UK sales director of Airedale International Air Conditioning Ltd, Mr Paul Oliver.
The referee was Steve Powell, of Ilkley, and his assistants were Brian Barrett, of Baildon, Paul Farrell, of Yeadon, and the fourth official John Warne, of Baildon.
Tonight, Thursday, the Wharfedale FA Airedale International Challenge Cup final will be staged at Guiseley AFC.
The final is between Horsforth St Margaret's and Pool AFC kicking-off at 7.30pm with extra-time and penalties if necessary.
Pool AFC have never won the trophy but appear to be getting nearer every season. Horsforth St Margaret's are the present holders.
The referee will be Trevor Pearson, of Horsforth, and his assistants will be Graeme Warrent, of Yeadon, and John Warne, of Baildon. The fourth official will be Mick Dennison, of Guiseley.
