The 1st Cullingworth Rainbows and Brownies have planted a millennium tree in their village.
The silver birch was planted by Rainbow Kara Jacobs, seven, and Brownie Ellen Young, eight, with help from Brown Owl Michele Wilson, next to Cullingworth war memorial.
A special ceremony was held for the planting of the tree, when Natasha Toner, ten, and Robyn Dickson, nine, read out a poem they had written together about the tree. Sarah Reay, eight, and Melissa Torr, nine, read out a poem on behalf of Hannah Mayno, nine, who couldn't attend the ceremony.
The money for the tree was raised by the selling of leaves at 50p per leaf to be hung on to a paper tree. Brown Owl Michele Wilson says: "Last September we started to raise money to plant a tree in our village.
"The children have been very excited about it and taken it to heart. The children said that they wanted the tree to be planted somewhere they can see it everyday, so with help from the parish council we arranged to plant the tree in the grounds of the war memorial."
