Civil engineering consultants Sycamore Construction Ltd have made a great start to the new Millennium with major contracts worth over £350,000 secured already this year. The Keighley company, run by managing director Jerry Turner and his wife and company secretary Vivian, has also increased its workforce by four and now employs a total of 15 people.
The firm started in 1993 and became a limited company the following year.
A major milestone this year is the achievement of approved contractors status in the Marshalls Register, a new nationwide initiative aimed at marketing home improvement and other products direct to customers through the Internet.
Sycamore has also produced its own website, which can be accessed on www. sycamoreconstruction.co.uk.
One of its major projects this year is a £100,000 contract with British Waterways, which involves environmental improvements including stone setts and landscaping at the listed Fall Ings Lock canal basin in Wakefield. The work is being done on behalf of the Groundwork Wakefield charitable trust, and will take 10 weeks.
Sycamore has been heavily involved in construction work at Magnet's Keighley factory as part of its Joinery 2000 re-structuring, and has carried out extensive drainage work at Branshaw Golf Club in Oakworth.
The firm also carries out work for the Vehicle Inspectorate, mainly involving weighbridges, and has won contracts for environmental improvement schemes with Wake-field Council's housing department.
