COUGAR Cubs Under-16's took the honours in a thrilling Bradford Cup final -- beating Bradford side Royds 11-10.
The game was evenly contested throughout with both defences dominating play. Cubs broke the deadlock midway through the first half when full back Richard West scored in the corner following some clever play from the rest of the team. Steve Cullen added a wonderful touchline conversion.
Royds quickly fought their way back into the game and were rewarded with a converted try to level the scores.
Cubs managed to get their noses back in front just before half time when stand off Brady Godfrey chased his own kick to complete a great individual try. Cullen failed to add the extra points.
The second half was again a very tight affair with both sides going close. Royds again levelled with scores with an unconverted try.
The Keighley side responded immediately when scrum half Richard Blackburn kicked the winning drop goal to bring the score to 10-11 with 10 minutes left.
Royds threw everything at the Keighley defence in the closing minutes, but were unable to break their line. The Keighley pack of Jackson, Bowness, Sharpe, Wilson, Holland and Kelly was outstanding.
After their meeting in the Youth RL Challenge Festival the Coyotes and Pumas played again in the semi-final of the Bradford Cup.
Both teams played excellent rugby and the score was 16-16 at full time. After extra time they were still locked together at 20-20.
They got together for a replay as curtain-raiser to Friday night's Academy game at Cougar Park when both teams again entertained the spectators, but the Coyotes sound defence earned them a place in the final as they ran out 24-0 winners.
