Pool-IN-WHARFEDALE has been shortlisted as one of the 20 regional finalists in the Village of the Year competition. An assessor from the Yorkshire Rural Community Council recently visited the village, judging its appearance, community spirit and involvement, environmental matters, the business community and provision for young people amongst other things. Pool has been shortlisted for the finals out of 60 entries. A steering group was formed in the village, and there was further effort from Pool C of E Primary School and other village organisations. The bid was submitted by the parish council. "It is a tremendous achievement," said a steering group spokeswoman. "It really is something to be proud of."
