THREE Keighley-based runners have won places to run for England in European fell racing competitions.
Helen Johnson (above), Helen Glover and Robert Jebb clinched their selection with superb performances in selection races run over Latrigg Fell at Keswick in Cumbria last weekend.
Helen Johnson, who recently helped the England team to a Gold Medal finish in the Knockdhu Race in Ireland, finished third in the ladies race to earn a place on the European Trophy Race team. She celebrates her 33rd birthday this weekend and has been selected to take part in the second race of the European Grand Prix in Slovenia.
Oakbank student Helen Glover confirmed her recent form with second place in the junior race, only being beaten on the final run-in to the summit finish. Her performance secured selection for the Black Forest teenage games in Germany over the weekend of July8-9 when she will compete in an uphill only race.
Oakbank team mate Laura Greenham was eighth in the top class Lake District event.
In the senior men's event Robert Jebb of Cross Roads also finished second to secure a place in the European Trophy race to be held in Poland on July 2. He was just three seconds behind Alan Boweness in 54:46 with American runner Paul Low third in 55:06.
