ON Sunday eight Otley runners travelled to Thirsk for their 10-mile road race. Conditions there were surprisingly good with little sign of the flooding which made the journey out of Wharfedale just a little tricky.
Julian Mawson continued his series of fine results finishing in 19th place in a time of 56min 45sec to be first Otley counter. Next to finish was Tom Hannah in 66.42, passing Colin Best, with less than half a mile to go. Colin had the consolation of a new personal best for 10 miles of 66.54.
Also finishing close together were Steve Mann in 69.40 and Phil Robinson in 69.49. Next were David Hainsworth in 72.31 and Kath Robertshaw in 72.37, both trying to regain fitness after injury, and the Otley squad was completed by Mary Hampshire in 83.13.
There are many midweek races at this time of year but the next club event is tonight (Thursday) when the third Harrogate League race takes place at Harlow Carr, Harrogate (start 7.30pm).
