GUISELEY Rangers ARLFC held their Junior Presentation evening last Friday at the High Royds Sports Club, Menston. The junior sponsors were the invited guests, Airflow Compressors, from Leigh in Lancashire; IHS from Leeds, and Mastercraft Maintenance, a local firm. Waddington Chorley are also sponsors, but were unable to attend.
A children's entertainer performed for the first hour before the vice-chairman, Frank Broadhead, made the welcoming speech.
All the junior players were presented with rugby player statuettes prior to the individual award winners.
The Under-10s player and parents Player of the Year was Robert Butterfield, and the runner-up was Benjamin Lee. The most Improved Under-10 was James Grimshaw.
The Under-9s player and parent's player, playing a year above his age group, was won by Luke Exley. The runner-up was Joshua Lee. The Under-9s most Improved player was Jordan Clayton.
The Under-8s Player of the Year winner was Jonathan Bottomley. Parents and runner-up player was Edwin Clements, and the most Improved player was Nicky Hardwick.
Presentations were also made to Mrs Kate Clayton for the running of the club's kitchen and to Kelly Butterfield for the match day raffles and collections.
The club also rewarded the Junior coaches for their hard work and dedication - Simon Parker, Tracey Clayton and John Bottomley.
Club ties were also presented to the sponsors.
Club secretary David Clayton gave the closing speech, saying that the club had come off the back of a tremendous season with the senior team now promoted to the Pennine Premier Division and ably supported by the three junior sides.
He thanked other members of the committee, the parents, supporters, everyone who had helped in making it such a very good 1999/2000 season. The evening concluded with a disco.
Training is continuing throughout the closed season every Monday evening, 6.30pm on the Nunroyd ground, opposite McDonald's. Any junior boy or girl, from six-year-old upwards, is able to attend.
