The legendary Beverley Sisters proved you're never too old to party when they opened a retirement complex in Ilkley yesterday.
And for two other sisters it was a dream come true. Barbara Houseman, of Moor Park Crescent, Addingham, and Sue Smith, of County Cork, Ireland, celebrated their 50th birthdays by meeting up with the stars after reading about their visit.
Barbara said: "We are great fans of them, we remember them well and after seeing it advertised thought we would come to see them. I'm surprised there are not more people here, they look great - just like us! We associate with them because they are sisters."
Sue added: "The sisters are great and it's marvellous to see them in the flesh."
The sisters were warmly applauded as they were introduced to residents and visitors at Carnegie Court, a retirement development consisting of 50 privately-owned flats in Spring Lane, by managing director Howard Phillips.
After giving a jokey presentation, they delighted the residents by singing some of their best-known numbers including Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree and How Much Is That Doggy In The Window. One of the famous sisters, Teddie told the Ilkley Gazette: "This is first time we have been to Ilkley and it is wonderful countryside, it's the real England. It's a pleasure to be here and to sing and entertain these people."
