Two of West Yorkshire's top railway attractions have reached agreement for the restoration of a celebrity steam locomotive which appeared with Jenny Agutter in the original 1968 BBCTV version of The Railway Children.
Sir Berkeley was built in December 1890 by Manning, Wardle & Co of Leeds.
The locomotive is now owned by the Vintage Carriages Trust Museum of Rail Travel, located on the A629 Halifax Road at Ingrow.
The locomotive is due to be withdrawn later this year, as all the boiler tubes will need replacing.
Agreement has been reached between the locomotive's owners, the Vintage Carriages Trust and the Middleton Railway, Leeds, for the Middleton Railway to undertake much of the work on the frames and motion, with the boiler work being contracted out by Vintage Carriages Trust.
After the boiler has been re-tubed and the loco reassembled, the locomotive will be based for the next ten years at the Middleton Railway when not hired out by Vintage Carriages Trust to other sites.
