AMONG the local players selected for the Yorkshire Under-11 cricket team are Addingham Middle School pupils Alex Bailey and Richard Atkins.
The boys are coached at school by Peter Blackwell who has given many local youngsters a first and lasting taste of cricket. Richard plays his club cricket with Addingham CC while Alex plays for Ilkley CC. Both have been selected to play for Bradford Schools this summer.
They and Denton's Archie Reynolds - a pupil at Malsis School, Crosshills - came through a series of trials with boys from all over the county culminating in a final trial at Headingley from which 13 players were selected for the final squad. They will represent Yorkshire in county matches against Lancashire (twice), Northumberland, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire.
Archie is coached at Malsis by Yorkshire CCC academy coach David (George) Batty.
Alex captained Bradford Schools in their opening game. Both he and Richard are all-rounders and as well as cricket they also shine at soccer. Both were members of the Ilkley Juniors Under-11 soccer side which gained a league and cup double.
